CFO Seminar – An Eye Opening Experience

It’s been a long time! As you can see from my previous post, I have been in the US for over 3 weeks now. It’s just like Manila, only cleaner and with less buses.

I am making this post for girls who are now in the process of getting their CFO Seminar.

What does CFO stand for?

CFO means “Commission on Filipinos Overseas”. They deal with Filipinos who migrate or work in other countries. For more information, visit their website atΒ

In relation to a K1 visa or a fiance’s visa, we are required to undergo this seminar. After attending this seminar, they will put a sticker on your passport. In the airport, if you don’t have this sticker, they won’t let you in the airplane, so this is very important.

In Manila, there are 2 places wherein you can have your seminar:

  1. St. Mary Euphrasia Foundation – Center for Overseas Workers (SMEF – COW Manila)
Good Shepherd Convent, 1043 Aurora Blvd., Quezon City, Philippines
    (632) 913-6439
  2. People’s Reform Initiative for Social Mobilization, Inc (PRISM)
2nd floor BDO Building, 2422 Taft Avenue
    (632) 525-3114

This is a map to their location, and it shows the public transportation you may use to get there:

This website has all the information you need, including the schedules for the seminars, documents to bring, the fees you have to pay for, and what to expect:Β COMPLETE INFORMATION

Take note: This is only for the seminar and NOT for the sticker. They will only issue the sticker if you have a certificate that you’ve attended the seminar.

After completing the seminar, you are now eligible to get the sticker for your passport. You can only have the sticker if you already have your visa, that’s why most people just wait for their visa’s to arrive before getting the seminar and the sticker. Para isang puntahan na lang.

Personally, I chose to go to #1, SMEF. Why? Because they have a satellite CFO office where you can have your seminar and get your sticker at the same time. In #2, PRISM, after getting your seminar, you still have to travel to the CFO Quirino Office to get the sticker. Ma-hassle. Also, I liked SMEF because they had a website and they were easy to contact, unlike PRISM. I tried calling their numbers, but I couldn’t get through it.

If you already have your visa when you had your seminar, this is your next step:

  1. If you went to SMEF, you can have your sticker in that same place as CFO has a satellite office in that area. No need to travel.
  2. If you went to PRISM, you still have to go to the CFO office, and you have to travel. The address is:
    CFO Manila
Citigold Center, 1345 Pres. Quirino Ave, corner Osmena Highway
Note: This is near the PRISM office, but for me, it’s such a hassle to commute again to another place, that’s why I chose SMEF.

If you don’t have your visa yet, then wait for it to arrive before you get your sticker.

That’s why people say that just wait for your visa before getting the seminar so you don’t have to come back again for the sticker, but it’s still your decision.

I hope this helps the people who are in this process! It can get complicated, but YOU can do it!!!! Always keep yourself well-informed, and get things done so that you can be with your fiance/husband as soon as possible!!!

Good luck! πŸ™‚

Hi your blog is very helpful.. I was wondering yung CFO ba needed basta lalabas ka ng bansa or kapag foreigner lang husbang mo? And paano kung naturalized citizen siya? Do they still require you?

hello, I went to SMEF last week and I found out that it’s closed already…

tanong ko lang po, would I still need to undergo this seminar and get a spousal visa if I will only stay for 1 week in Korea with my Korean husband?pwede kayang tourist visa na lang..?

my passport is still valid pero single pa rin ang status ko dun, sabi sa DFA ok lang daw yun…sabi naman sa travel agency mas ok kung spousal visa na kunin, at mag palit na rin ng name sa passport…nalilito na tuloy ako.. hope someone can help me with this…thank you po ^_^
